New Stuff for the
New Year
It’s time when most folk do a wrap-up of what came and went in 2006; instead we at Beyond Wonderful have the crystal balls to gaze into the future of 2007 and boldly predict what changes await you in the wine world. (That way you can amaze your friends with your uncanny vinous prescience during the next 12 months). In this overview, we’ll look at publications new and old, wine gadgets, packaging and marketing, consumer drinking trends, macro wine economics (oh, goody!), restaurant changes and where the wine bargains will be.

Shut Up and Drink:
Why all the wine babble?
It’s everywhere: 1500 page wine books drown us in flowery verbiage. Wine magazines spout gems like “diacetyl” and “terroir” on every page. Eavesdrop on wine drinkers at any swanky gathering and you’ll get an earful of “texture,” “mouthfeel” and “body.” But aren’t those all, like, the same thing? Why do we insist on using this invented language to describe wines, when, frankly, it only confuses people. I say we should abolish “wine babble” once and for all. |
