Often folks wonder what kind of wine best complements their fish or whatever, when they ought to be thinking: what am I in the mood for? I mean, you’ve heard this phrase before, right? “What are you in the mood for?”

So why are you so panty-twisted about your entrée and what wine it might clash with? That’s all I’m asking. And here’s my point: When it comes to wine choice, your food does not matter nearly as much as the mood you are in. Weird, huh?

So it’s simple. Forget about your food and just order what you feel like drinking. I realize this is an alarming thought for some of you who feel you have no idea what kind of wine to order and need guidance. You crave a touchstone, a stick to lift you from the quicksand of confounding idiocy that is the wine trade and its non-stop verbiage. To you I say: use The Force.

Yep. Just like in Star Wars (yes, I know to regular readers this whole George Lucas worship thing might be getting a little stale), you must simply do what feels correct at the moment. Just like you do with a thousand other things in your life, like what to wear, which TV show to watch, what music to listen to etc.
