Mexican Beverage Recipe
This sweet, creamy milk drink is served hot, often with tamales or sweet breads. This basic recipe is laced with cinnamon, although chocolate and fruit are also sometimes used.

Ingredients
Serves 4
5 cups milk, divided
~   sugar to taste
2   cinnamon sticks
2–3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water
 
 
Directions 
 
    1. Combine the milk, sugar, and cinnamon sticks in a heavy-bottomed pan set over medium heat.

    2. Place the cornstarch and water in a small bowl and whisk until smooth.

    3. Whisk the cornstarch into the milk mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until it comes to a lively simmer and thickens.

    4. Ladle the atole de canela into cups and serve.
     
 

Preparation time: Approximately 15 minutes.
